nternational Women’s Day I, is a special day for us as it celebrates the incredible achievements of women worldwide. At Cloud68.co, we believe that we must recognize and celebrate the contributions of women in the tech industry every day, especially those who contribute to free libre open source technologies (FLOSS) and online privacy.
On March 8th, we should remember that women have played a significant role in the development of FLOSS, including Ada Lovelace, who wrote the first computer program in the 1800s and Margaret Hamilton. In more recent times, women have contributed to important open source projects such as Linux, Nextcloud, and WordPress, as well as advocating for digital security and online privacy.
(In 2016, Margaret Hamilton was awarded for her work leading to the development of on-board flight software for NASA’s Apollo Moon missions.)
While International Women’s Day is a day to celebrate women’s contributions, we believe that we must fight for recognition of women every day. Women are still underrepresented in the tech industry, and many face discrimination and harassment. We must continue to advocate for equal opportunities and recognition for women in tech, and we must work to create a more inclusive industry.
